Dr. Dennis Gibson Named ACUTE Medical Director

The ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders & Severe Malntutrition at Denver Health , a national Center of Excellence for the medical stabilization of patients with severe and extreme eating disorders, is pleased to announce that Dennis Gibson, MD, FACP, CEDS has been named Medical Director following an exhaustive national search.

Growing national demand for ACUTE’s renowned specialized medical care necessitates the most capable, experienced and dedicated physicians. Under Dr. Gibson’s guidance, I anticipate continued success treating these critically ill patients with eating disorders and other forms of severe malnutrition. With recently opened beds on the unit, there is expanded access to our care as well as ongoing research into effective medical treatment of extreme forms of eating disorders.

As Medical Director, Dr. Gibson will oversee the day-to-day interdisciplinary treatment teams that comprise ACUTE’s well-acclaimed medical stabilization care for persons affected by extreme complications of the disease. With a unique style described as both genial and skillful, Dr. Gibson will perpetuate the path forward to positive patient outcomes for referrals from medical hospitals, residential treatment centers and outpatient providers.

Concurrently, Dr. Mehler will transition into the role of ACUTE’s Chief Executive Officer. As CEO, he will continue to serve as a steadfast mentor to Dr. Gibson, providing expert consultation on highly complex cases and delivering the unparalleled patient care for which he is widely known following 30+ years in the field and as one of the world’s true experts. Dr. Mehler will oversee cutting-edge ACUTE research, deliver essential trainings, endeavor new initiatives related to ACUTE’s core growth in eating disorders and other forms of severe malnutrition. He will also continue to interface with patients, families and referral sources, while assisting with strategic initiatives to raise awareness of ACUTE’s specialty care.
