Medical Complications of Eating Disorders: What all Medical Providers Need to Know

Medical providers are often the first point of professional contact for a patient with an eating disorder. The presentation will challenge the common myths, misconceptions and biases held by medical professionals that can interfere with the proper identification of eating disorders and exacerbate eating disorder pathology. This presentation will summarize DSM-5 Diagnostic Criteria for common eating disorders, discuss associated medical complications and explain appropriate interventions. This will include providing guidelines on how to identify an eating disorder, case examples, levels of care in eating disorder treatment.
