ACUTE to Keynote the 2021 Multi-Service Eating Disorder Association (MEDA) Conference

We are pleased to announce that ACUTE founder and CEO Philip S. Mehler, MD, FACP, FAED, CEDS, has been selected to deliver the keynote address at the 2021 MEDA Conference. A fully virtual event, this year’s conference will be delivered across two days, May 20-21, 2021 to promote healthy social distancing while delivering 15 high quality continuing education credits for providers in the field.

Dr. Mehler will be presenting on the topic, “Medical Complications of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia.” Dr. Mehler is widely recognized as the foremost international expert in the medical treatment of eating disorders. He has published nearly 500 scholarly pieces related to this specialty, and draws from three decades of clinical experience treating patients on the brink of death due to severe and extreme forms of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, ARFID and atypical anorexia nervosa. Learn more about Dr. Mehler’s robust expertise and experience here.

Eating disorders are psychiatric illnesses with life-threatening medical complications that can arise from malnutrition and/or purging behaviors. It is essential that providers across disciplines develop a cursory knowledge of these medical issues, as well as referral best practices, to help their patients achieve the medical stability that underlies the capability to engage safely and productively in behavioral eating disorder treatment.

Following Dr. Mehler’s session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify medical problems related to bulimia nervosa, and how to manage them
  • Identify medical problems related to anorexia nervosa, and ARFID and how to manage them
  • Recognize when a patient needs a higher level of care for ongoing management of medical problems

MEDA is the foremost eating disorders nonprofit organization in New England, providing education about eating disorders and their underlying causes to develop a compassionate community that promotes hopefulness and supports healing. Learn more about the MEDA Conference or register here.
