Cheryl Lundberg, PsyD, CEDS

Psychology Team Lead
Cheryl Lundberg, PsyD, CEDS, is the Psychology Team Lead at the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders and Severe Malnutrition. She specializes in the psychological care of patients experiencing life-threatening medical complications from severe eating disorders and brings more than a decade of clinical experience across inpatient and residential levels of care.

Cheryl Lundberg, PsyD, CEDS, serves as the Psychology Team Lead at the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders and Severe Malnutrition. She joined ACUTE in 2020 as a Psychologist and was promoted to Psychology Team Lead in 2025. In her role, Dr. Lundberg provides psychological leadership within the multidisciplinary team, supporting patients through medical stabilization while addressing the complex emotional and cognitive aspects of severe eating disorders.

Dr. Lundberg earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis and her Doctor of Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. She is a member of the American Psychological Association (since 2012) and the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (since 2018). In 2023, she earned her Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) designation through iaedp™.

Prior to joining ACUTE, Dr. Lundberg completed her predoctoral internship at the Renfrew Center of Coconut Creek, where she also served as a therapist. She went on to complete her postdoctoral fellowship at Monte Nido, where she served as a primary and lead therapist and was part of the site's founding team. From 2018 to 2020, she served as a primary therapist at Eating Recovery Center in Denver, further specializing in the treatment of eating disorders across levels of care.

Dr. Lundberg has contributed to research exploring the intersection of medical and psychological severity in eating disorders, including Changes in Grip Strength, Depression, and Cognitive Functioning During Medical Stabilization for Anorexia Nervosa: Exploring the Utility of Grip Strength as a Marker of Severity and A Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Managing End-Stage Renal Disease in Anorexia Nervosa: A Case Report.

Since 2020 she has served as an Instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She has contributed to national conversations on youth mental health through her work with Foundation for Jewish Camp’s Yedid Nefesh Initiative and MaxU.

Dr. Lundberg is deeply inspired by the work done at ACUTE and values being part of a team of experts who support patients both physically and emotionally during some of the most critical moments in their recovery. She finds meaning in building strong therapeutic relationships and witnessing the shifts, both large and small, that signal hope and progress.

Outside of work, she enjoys attending concerts, playing basketball, skiing and watching sports. She also loves spending time with her wife, their toddler and their two dogs.

ACUTE Earns Prestigious Center of Excellence Designation from Anthem
In 2018, the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders & Severe Malnutrition at Denver Health was honored by Anthem Health as a Center of Excellence for Medical Treatment of Severe and Extreme Eating Disorders. ACUTE is the first medical unit ever to achieve this designation in the field of eating disorders. It comes after a rigorous review process.
